Get Your Home Vacation Ready

How to Get Your Home Vacation Ready

You and your family may be excited, getting ready for that long awaited and well deserved vacation, but it would be smart not to neglect your home while you’re away. Little things make a huge difference and you wouldn’t want any unexpected surprises to home to. See the below tips from Ken’s AC to show how you should take care of your home this summer right before leaving for vacation!

  • Adjust your thermostat – Although often overlooked, you should make sure to set your thermostat before you leave for a few days! One of the biggest misconceptions of good thermostat practice is turning your AC off if you don’t need it for a few days to save money on bills. Unfortunately, this method will only cause you to spend more money since it takes more energy to cool up your home and furnishings again. The recommended option is to turn your thermostat a few degrees higher while you are gone and the best recommendation is to install a Programmable thermostat that saves you money all the time.
  • Replace your air filter – Make sure your air filter has been replaced, a dirty air filter will greatly affect your system’s efficiency. Don’t let your system work harder than it has to which will lead to higher energy bills as well.
  • Make sure your air vents are opened – For the same reason as having your air filters replaced, make sure your system is optimizing at full efficiency by making sure your air vents are opened.
  • Tune- up/maintenance – If you haven’t already, make sure your system has been tuned up. Don’t let small problems accumulate into bigger ones, this is definitely something you don’t want to deal with when you get back from a vacation.
