The Dog Days of Summer is the roughly the period between July 3rd to August 8th. The unbearably hot and sultry days where nobody in Texas wants to be outside. Where everyone is cranking their air conditioners to keep up with the heat, however, what happens when your AC is struggling with the summer heat? There are a number of reasons and most of them will require work from an AC specialist. Below are some of the possible causes for a struggling AC:
- Damaged ductwork:The problem may not be with the cooling system but the ductwork. The ductwork may have a tear or a hole which can cause air to leak out, which results in less cooling power and less cool air circulating in your home.
- Loss of refrigerant:As there can be ductwork leaks, the liquid cooling agent that cools the air can also leak through the refrigeration lines. Line leaks cut into its cooling power and will eventually lead to irreparable compressor damage.
- Miscalibrated thermostat:Sometimes the thermostat sensors read the incorrect temperatures and provide inaccurate cooling and heating which can result in too hot or too cold situation. A miscalibrated thermostat will turn the AC on and off at the wrong times resulting in more energy consumption and less comfortability.
- Undersized AC:Has your AC system been recently installed? And it’s still not performing to the standards you were promised? Then the problem might have been improper installation of an undersized AC. An undersized system will struggle to provide the demands of a house that is bigger than the cooling power it can output.
