Before heading to a long-waited and well-deserved trip this summer, don’t forget to prep your heating and air system. Allow your HVAC system run at its highest efficiency and allow yourself to relax this vacation by following our top tips below:
- Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat – With no one at home, there isn’t a need to keep the thermostat running at a comfortable and cool level. Instead, consider raising the temperature by a few degrees during your vacancy to cut down cost on your energy bill. It is typically recommended to set your thermostat between 80-85 degrees – just remember to set it back to your preferred temperature on or before arrival.
- Surge Protection – Power outages and surges are unpredictable and can happen when you’re gone. Avoid any electrical damages your HVAC system by installing a surge protector.
- Clean/Change Your Air Filter – Although you are away for vacation, your HVAC system continues to run. Ensure that your system is running smoothly by making sure that the air filter has either been replaced or is as clean as possible to avoid any possible errors.
- HVAC Protection – Most homeowners oftentimes forget to secure their HVAC system, which can be especially important to do before leaving on a trip. You can do this by setting up lights, alarms, and/or fencing your system for added security.
As always, you can schedule a performance maintenance check-up with a Ken’s AC technician to ensure your system is running properly and efficiently. Our technicians will let you know of any imperative issues to address before turning into costly repairs in the future.
